Summer of 2015, right before the kickoff to my graduating year, my dance troupe and I were blessed to be able to retreat to paradise on earth: Savary Island. One of the Gulf Islands scattered throughout the Strait of Georgie between Vancouver Island and Mainland BC, Savary is truly a slice of Heaven on earth. And when I say "slice," I mean it. It's about 7 km long and only about 1.5 km wide. You can walk around the entire thing in 5 hours without ever leaving the beach.
Grant Lawrence describes this jewel of an island in his book, Adventures in Solitude: "Sitting like a crescent moon in the Strait of Georgia... is the wondrous microclimate of Savary Island. When you sink your toes into its white sand shores, you might miraculously feel transported to Martha's Vineyard, Key West or Barbados. On Savary Island the sun feels hotter, and the water feels warmer."
My friends and I were treated to life in a gorgeous cabin overlooking the water, sleeping on the deck under the stars every night, wearing our swimsuits all day long, biking through forest trails, and exploring beach after beach after beach. I remember saying to my friends the day we left, "There wasn't a single shadow over that entire trip." And I meant it. The whole thing was bliss. Peaceful, refreshing, renewing, reviving. We left after 10 days feeling like new souls ready to take on the year.... but at the same time, planning our next trip back.
Allow me to transport you to this magical island!
